About us

Welcome to the Callander Bay Heritage Museum, situated in the former home and practice of Dr. Allan Roy Dafoe, Physician to the Dionne Quintuplets! Our eight-rooms feature items related to the five famous identical sisters and Dr. Dafoe’s medical practice, as well as a turn-of-the-century barber shop that was originally located on the main street in Callander. Other rooms explore the town’s shipping and logging history, which were vital to the development of the region, textiles, which include hockey jerseys belonging to Philadelphia Flyer Bill Barber, a hockey hall of fame inductee and 2-time Stanley Cup champion, and Red Cross nursing artefacts.  In addition to the museum, the Alex Dufresne Gallery houses several exhibitions each year supporting the artistic talents of local and area artists. It is named after Alex Dufresne, a well known barber and collector of fine antiques and artifacts who was instrumental in opening the museum in 1981. Both the museum and gallery share the same entrance. Bus tours are asked to book at least two days in advance.
